What is HMPV?

Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a new respiratory virus that is virtually identical to a common cold. It mainly inflicts the young children, the aged, and the weaker complements of the human beings.   

India’s First Case:

India was only able to confirm the existence of HMPV this year when the virus infected a man in Bengaluru. An eight month old baby who had contact with other children was confirmed to have the virus.   

Symptoms of HMPV Infection:

Runny nose   

Cough   

Fever   

Not able to breathe correctly (in severe situations)   

What to Do:

Stay Informed: Get more news on HMPV and information from health related authorities to get more information.

Practice Good Hygiene:

Wear a mask, use hand sanitizers and wash your hands with soap and water more often.

Hand rub when washing with soap and water is not possible.

This should be done by using the elbow, or special handkerchief that should cover the mouth and the nose.  

Avoid touching your face.

Vaccinations: For people with diabetes get vaccinated for influenza, COVID-19 or any other coming flu as these are recommendable vaccines to avoid contracting respiratory ailments.  

Consult a Doctor: If you or your child develop symptoms of HMPV, you should go for an examination by a doctor.
