GST Collections Rise 7.3% Year-on-Year in December, Reaching Rs 1.77 Lakh Crore

New Delhi: The cumulative Changes in GST collection are shown below: The GST collection in December 2024 was Rs 1,77, 180 Cr which is 7.3 percent more than the collection made in December, 2023 of Rs 1,65, 000 Cr. This data prepared by the government at, further shows the increase in the share of the receipts from indirect taxes.
Key Highlights:
Gross GST Revenue: Rs 1,76,857 crore
CGST: Rs 32,836 crore
SGST: Rs 40,499 crore
IGST: Rs 47,783 crore
Cess: Rs 11,471 crore
Refunds issued: Rs 22,490 crore
These realizations indicate that the constant rise of GST revenues portrays a favourable outlook in the Indian economy. Our government attributes this growth to several factors, such as:
Increased economic activity:
Due to enhanced economic base, consumption and production rates have gone high and thus tax revenues.
Improved compliance:
Toughg measures including enhanced crackdown measures and automation of tax measures among others has enhanced tax compliance in business.
Anti-evasion measures:
The political management has also factor to note the increase in the GST collections; the government has been very harsh in suppressing tax evasion.
Sequential Dip:
The year on year growth rate is upward, though it is still important to note that the overall collection for December 2024 was slightly lower than that of November 2024 – Rs 1,82,169. This seasonal movement is usually seen after the festivities because spending patterns begin to revert to normal.

The government continues to ensure more improvements on the GST regime through changes and technical enhancements. These have been made in a bid to improve tax compliance, lower ad valorem tax collection burden as well as promote fair taxation.
